Midwest Regional Race updates Jan 14 & 15

Conditions are good at Blackhawk considering there is no natural snow in southern WI. Our Snow makers did a great job getting the course and range ready.  We will have a 1.0 and 1.3K loop for the races. The entire course has 1′ to 3′ of snow base and will ski fast. Race day temps are expected to be in the  mid 20’s to upper 30’s degrees.

Registration closes on Wednesday evening 1/11/23 at midnight. Looking forward to seeing a good turnout. Please plan to help with races as we need volunteers to make the races a success. Currently we have over 40 racers registered for each day.

Looking forward to great races this weekend

Guard Biathlon Camp 26-28 AUG 2022

Here is the schedule for the Guard Biathlon Camp at Camp Ripley, MN on the above dates.

From our perspective, I think the Sat/Sunday training/races are the most important. However, if someone wants to come on Friday pm for the Combo training at 2:00 pm, I can come down and coach.

Please let me know if you plan to attend, and if so, which days.

We do need to submit names and numbers to Derek before the camp, so please respond to me by Wed, 24 AUG.

I just received confirmation that spectators are allowed and civilian athletes are again allowed to race with a completed COVID screening and liability waiver (both attached).  If any of your athletes plan to attend, please send myself and SFC Pam Marshik (CC Line) a list of the race/date and names so they can be added to the start list.  We have over 120 athletes (of all skill levels) registered this year so it will be a large competition. Please let your athletes know they must stop in at Range Control and get a vehicle pass before going down range.  Also, ensure they have a face covering.

Here is the schedule:
Saturday, 12 FEB Official Training
Sunday, 13 FEB Sprint Race
Monday, 14 FEB Pursuit Race
Wednesday, 16 FEB Relay Race
Thursday, 17 FEB Patrol Race

Races are scheduled to begin at 10:00am with zero at 9:00.  If any of your athletes want to participate in the team races, we can probably find them a composite team to join.

MN Biathlon Membership

Good Morning!!

Here is the membership form for MN Biathlon for the coming training year which will start on 12th of April, and runs from April to April. A USBA membership is also required to use the ranges and participate in events (membership runs from Oct to Oct). USBA provides our range insurance.

Also coming up are rifles leases for those leasing MN Biathlon rifles for the coming year. We are still working on the final distribution list, and we will contact those affected within the next couple of weeks. Rifle lease prices will remain the same as last year –$200 for a bolt action or Izhmach, and $225 for an Anschutz Fortner action. If you want a club rifle but haven’t returned the questionnaire to me yet, I need that before we will re-issue any rifle.

Training plans for the upcoming season are also being developed according to the information I have. If you want a plan, but have not indicated to me you would like a plan, please do so. I will need  the number of hours you trained last year, and reserve the right to just refer you to our pretty much weekly email. I am waiting on USBA to get their Trials schedule out. The IBU Youth and Junior World Championships will be held at Soldier Hollow in the US in late February this upcoming season!

Currently we have 10 athletes from the Midwest headed for West Yellowstone for US Biathlon Nationals. Some are there, some are on their way, and some leave in the am. Good Luck to all!! 140+biathletes from around the lower 48 snowbelt plus AK are registered!! Should be a lot of fun!! The Covid testing requirements are strict!!

Meanwhile, please take a minute to fill out the attached form, and return it to me as indicated. Any checks should be made out to MN Biathlon.

Thanks—lets get this done asap!
