Mt. Itasca Grand Rapids/Coleraine, MN
Directions to Mt Itasca from Grand Rapids Fairgrounds: take County 38 approx 4 miles north of Highway 2. Go right on County 61- follow 61 approx 5 miles and go right at the “Mt Itasca” sign (this will be immediately after the railroad crossing) Directions to Mt Itasca from Highway 169: Take Highway 169 North from Grand Rapids- approx 7 miles. As you enter Coleraine, look for signs for the Ole Mangseth Ski Jump- you will need to turn left off of 169. Follow signs to Ski Jump and Mt Itasca.
Elk River
From the Twin Cities: Take I-94 West (& north) to Hwy 101 North to Elk River and Hwy 10 west through 3 lights. At the 3rd light, take a right on Proctor and go (North) then angle LEFT (North-West) onto Elk Lake Rd NW. Continue (North-West) on Elk Lake Rd NW for 2 miles. Go past golf course and Country Club. Immediately past the Country Club, turn right at Woodland Trails Park road to get to parking lot.
From Hwy 169 traveling north: Go west on Hwy 10 to the 3rd light. At the 3rd light take a right on Proctor and go (North) then angle LEFT (North-West) onto Elk Lake Rd NW. Continue (North-West) on Elk Lake Rd NW for 2 miles. Go past golf course and Country Club. Immediately past the Country Club, turn right at Woodland Trails Park road to get to parking lot.
From Northern MN traveling south on Hwy169: In the town of Elk River, turn RIGHT (west) onto School St. Go about 2 miles (past all the schools.) Turn RIGHT (North) onto Proctor Ave then angle LEFT (North-West) onto Elk Lake Rd NW. Continue (North-West) on Elk Lake Rd NW for 2 miles. Go past golf course and Country Club. Immediately past the Country Club, turn right at Woodland Trails Park road to get to parking lot.
From the parking lot to the Range: To walk to the range, walk over the grassy hill at the end by the trails, turn right onto the blacktop trail. Keep taking right turns until you intersect the flat, straight trail (old railroad bed). Turn left, and then right down the hill to get to the range. To ski or bike to the range, exit the parking lot on the paved trail going straight out. Take right turns till you intersect the flat, straight trail (old railroad bed). Turn left, and then right down the hill to get to the range.
Camp Ripley (sometimes called Fort Ripley)
From the Twin Cities: Take Hwy 10 west to Little Falls. Take Hwy 371 north from Little Falls to Camp Ripley. Go west off 371 then north in the Main Gate and ask directions to Biathlon venue. You will need to stop and get a day permit for your vehicle to enter the range.
From Duluth: Take Hwy 210 west to Brainerd then Hwy 371 south to Camp Ripley. Camp Ripley is located 20 miles south of Brainerd on Hwy 371.
From points North: Pick your favorite way to Brainerd or Little Falls. Camp Ripley is north of Little Falls and south of Brainerd (20 miles) on Hwy 371. Camp is on the west side of the highway. Enter at the main gates.
Snowflake Nordic Center, Duluth, MN
From Twin Cities: Take I-35 going north. Go past Spirit Mountain ski area, continue another 7-8 miles. You will pass two exits to Superior, WI (the Bong bridge and the Blatnik bridge). When you see the downtown “skyline”, take the exit (right lane) to Mesaba Ave. Go to the top of the hill (4th traffic light). Go straight across the intersection; follow Rice Lake Road (Hwy 4) for another 3- 4 miles or so. Go left at the light intersection (Hwy 4 and Arrowhead Rd). Turn right 150 yards later (continue Hwy 4). Pass United Health Care on the right (150 yards). Snowflake will be on the right side of the road another 200 yards. Parking below the chalet.
From Grand Rapids: Take Hwy 2 going east. Approx. 20 miles before Duluth take Hwy 194 which splits off to the left. Go south on Hwy 53 approx. 15 miles later. Continue to Arrowhead Road, until you pass Menards (on left). Turn left at the Arrowhead-Hwy 53 light intersection, go approx. 4 miles until a light intersection. Turn left on Hwy 4 (Rice Lake Road); Snowflake is approx. 500 yards ahead on the left side of the road.
