On a beautiful and cool summer evening, MN Biathlon held their second race in the Summer Rollerski Race series on the paved trails at Woodland Park in Elk River. Fifteen athletes from around the state participated in the Pursuit format event.

In the Men’s and Senior Women 11.4 km race, Jakob Ellingson, Mt Itasca Biathlon, shooting 1,1,1,2 finished in 34:35 beating out second place Cam Christiansen, Nisswa Northwest, who shot 1,0,0,1 and finished 4 min back.
In the Woman’s event Siena Ellingson, Mt Itasca and USBA Development, shot 3,1,2,2 and finished in 41:56.

In the Youth Women and Older Girls 9.3 km race Stormy Hegg, Wolfpack Biathlon from Alexandria, shot 2,1,0,2 to take the top honors in 35:55 edging out second place Emma Stertz, Mt Itasca, 2,2,0,3 by 5 sec.

In the Younger Girls/Boys 7.1 km race, Frank Gangi, Mt Itasca, 0,2,3,2 finished in 29:38 just ahead of Matej Cervenka Mt Itasca, 0,0,2,3 who finished in 30:12.

On the Girls side, Clara Kramer, Duluth Biathlon, shooting 3,2,4,5 finished in 35:45, ahead of Maj Lis Helmer, Duluth Biathlon, 5,4,4,2 who finished in 39:52.

The next event in the series will be again at Elk River on Sunday, the 24th of Sept with a 10:00 zero.

Here are some race results and pictures from Minnesota Biathlon’s first summer roller ski biathlon race of the year held at Elk River on Thursday evening. The course was a mix of the paved Woodland Trails adding up to 9.3km. The format was pursuit with 10 sec interval starts, and prone prone standing standing for the shooting. The athlete does a 150 meter extra loop for each missed shot. Twenty shots total.

On the Men’s side, Youth Man, Vasek Cervenka, Mt Itasca Biathlon,  laid down the best time of the evening, 27:41 including skiing 4 penalties for 4 missed shots narrowly edging out Senior Man, Jakob Ellingson, also of Mt Itasca Biathlon, who finished in 27:45 w/5 misses.

On the Women’s side, Senior Woman, Siena Ellingson, USBA Senior National Development Team,  finished 1st in 34:30 with 5 misses, and Kaisa Bosek, Girl,  Alexandria’s Wolfpack Biathlon, finished 2nd in 39:25 with 5 penalties, also.

The next event will be in Jericho Vermont, the NorAm Rollerski Biathlon Championships the 12th and 13th of August followed by the 2nd in the MNBiathlon series at Elk River the 24th of August with zero at 5:00.

A huge thank you to all who helped out at Elk River today!!

Lot of work got done, the building stained and interior cleaned, some lead
removed from targets and sign board at the targets cleaned up.

If I missed someone, our thanks go to you as well, my memory isnt what it
once was…or what I think it once was. . 🙂 Dave, there are 3 1/4 buckets
of lead in the garage. And the two garbage containers at the range are
full–mixed bag–some of it is probably recyclable. And we did not seal the
range pavement where the graffiti was sprayed. It was painted over, but
still shows through. Thank you and Elk River for all the materials, disposal
and future work. And thank your mowing crew for keeping the place looking
respectable!!

Reminder for anyone–the bravo target on #6 lost part of a plate today.
Spares are in the building and Guthries will weld the old one back together.
