IBU Cup team trials / NAC 2 moving from Mt. Itasca to Canmore, Alberta

U.S. Biathlon’s International Competition Committee (ICC) received information from the race organizers at Mt. Itasca that despite great efforts to make enough snow for the IBU Cup team trials / NAC 2 next week, weather is not cooperating and it is unlikely that a sufficient course will be ready for the event.

Therefore, in consultation with staff and organizers, the ICC has decided to move the event to Canmore, Alberta, and conduct the races as coach-supported time trials. We recognize the additional cost and logistical hassle this will create for participants, but believe this decision best accomplishes our shared goal of holding a safe, fair, and competitive event to select the best team for the IBU Cup.

The modified schedule of events can be found below, with adjustments made for dates and race formats to align with venue availability in Canmore:

Wednesday, Dec. 16th – Sprint
Thursday, Dec. 17th – Sprint
Saturday, Dec. 19th – Sprint
Sunday, Dec. 20th – Pursuit

All athletes wishing to compete should send an email to USBA’s Erik Lewish at erik.lewish@gmail.com by 5 PM EST on Friday, December 11. We request that coaches and other team staff also reach out to Erik if they will be in Canmore so that he can coordinate support for the event.

We thank the organizers at Mt. Itasca for their tremendous efforts to try to make this event happen, and the venue in Canmore for their flexibility accommodating our event. We wish the athletes good luck and look forward to following your success!

Sincerely, United States Biathlon Association Staff
